At Maple Tree Academy we believe in nurturing a child’s emotional, practical and academic skills. Our materials are fun to work with and focus on specific academic concepts because we know that hands on learning is the most effective way to introduce young children to language, math, science, geography and art. They enjoy what they are doing so they practice what they are learning which builds confidence, an interest in learning and a solid understanding of the concepts.

» Practical Skills Children develop their gross and fine motor skills by working with their hands. By allowing students to practice skills such as table washing and setting, pouring, spooning and self care, they are able to learn motor control, strengthen their hands and understand sequencing. This prepares the student to hold a pencil, learn sequencing and develop self esteem.

» Language The students start refining their language skills by matching pictures to words, playing rhyming games and identifying letters. They continue the process by practicing letter formations and learning their relationships to each other. After working with our innovative materials, children become fluent readers who understand grammar and sentence structure.

» Math Children begin their journey into math by comparing the sizes, textures, weights and structures of several colorful and challenging objects. Next, they learn to recognize numbers and start associating quantity with the concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. By using materials such as number rods, cards and counters the concepts are reinforced on many levels, increasing both comprehension and retention.

» Science We believe that the best way for children to learn about science is to experience it. By seeing and touching parts of trees, flowers, mammals and insects they learn to connect science with what they see in the world. This helps them understand the concepts more clearly and encourages a genuine curiosity in our earth, and the plants and animals that inhabit it.

» Geography We study maps of the United States and other parts of the world pointing out the different types of landscape and various cultures. This gives students an appreciation of how large and diverse the world is, and promotes understanding and acceptance of all individuals.

» Creative Arts Our students express themselves creatively through painting, sculpting and creating mosaics.
We also emphasize music, dance and theater. This area is a favorite of many students.

» Foreign Language It is never too young to learn a foreign language. Spanish is taught in the classrooms twice a week and reinforced daily through the use of important words and phrases.
